What We Do

The Harvard Club of WNC has three main activities: Service, Interviewing, and Events. Each activity is led by one of our committees. We all benefit from the dedication, creativity, and expertise of our volunteer committees. All alumni in the area are invited to get involved in the activity that they find most compelling.

Service Committee

The Service Committee asks, "What can Harvard alumni uniquely do for the WNC community?" In considering the myriad of needs, we have chosen to support Harvard Alumni Association's Early College Awareness.

Early College Awareness

The Early College Awareness (ECA) Program was established to provide Harvard Clubs, Shared Interest Groups (SIGs), reunion classes, and other alumni organizations with a comprehensive way to help increase college awareness and preparedness among middle school and high school students.

Focusing on schools and communities that are underserved, the ECA program provides hope to those who don’t think college is an option. Through inspiration, information, and guidance, alumni volunteers can help students and their families learn realistic approaches to higher education, find sources of support, and prepare.

Interviewing Committee

Assisting and interviewing applicants is a critical part of our ongoing mission. It connects us directly to the University and allows us to help shape the future of both Harvard and WNC.

Each year, the committee conducts local interviews of several dozen applicants and makes recommendations to the Harvard College selection committee.

The Club also awards scholarships annually to local student(s) and donates the Harvard Book Award for outstanding students finishing their junior year of high school.

Members of the Interviewing Committee report that it's a meaningful way to keep in touch with the pulse of the lives of talented students from our area, and to enjoy some amazing conversations with these young men and women.

Events Committee

We love getting together! The Club holds several types of events regularly:

    Visiting Harvard lecturers
    Guest speakers
    Social events, like watching Harvard-Yale games
    Harvard Global Networking Events
