Yale Invites Harvard to a discussion of issues in public education in Asheville/Buncombe County

Our guest speakers are Dr. Dwight Mullen and his wife, Dr. Dolly Jenkins-Mullen. They are both prominent educators, community leaders, and retired professors at the University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA).

Please join us at the Cornerstone Restaurant 11:30 am -1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 16 to continue our discussion of issues in public education in Asheville/Buncombe County hosted by the Yale Alumni Association of Western NC. 

Our guest speakers are Dr. Dwight Mullen and his wife, Dr. Dolly Jenkins-Mullen. They are both prominent educators, community leaders, and retired professors at the University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA). We have asked them to help us determine where our activism and volunteer efforts might make the greatest difference in addressing these disparities and issues in public education. 

Dr. Dwight Mullen founded the State of Black Asheville initiative in 2008, a research project involving undergraduate students that analyzes local data to uncover and address racial disparities in health, housing, education, criminal justice, and economics. He has also served on the board of directors for organizations such as the Dogwood Health Trust.

Dr. Dolly Jenkins-Mullen formerly served as Vice Chair of the Asheville City Schools Board of Education and Chair of the Political Science Department at UNC Asheville.
